Melee weapons first appear in Borderlands V. Melee weapons tend to deal incredulity high damage to compensate for the short range, most weapons also grant a specific boost. They are perhaps one of the most limited weapons part-wise, as they are comprised only of a blade/head, a grip and few a accessories. But despite that they still remain varied and unique thanks to the fact that most Melee weapons spawn with random bonuses. White and green rarity will only spawn with one, either a passive or an active. Blue and above always spawn with both a passive and an active effect.

Six manufacturers produce Melee weapons. Bandit, Hyperion, Dahl, Torgue, Titan and I.G.P.D. Melee weapons have several subtypes, each manufacturer only produces certain subtypes.

Different Melee weapons also have slightly different reach, ranging from short, medium and long.

Subtypes[]

BuzzAxe[]

Produced by: Bandit

The BuzzAxe is unique in that it is only manufactured by bandit. It features good swing speed, medium reach and decent damage, an effective jack-of-all-trades.

Energy Sword[]

Produced by: Hyperion, I.G.P.D.

Energy swords tend to have long reach, high damage but slow swing speeds. Unlike most other melee weapons, Energy Swords are able to spawn with elemental capacitors.

Combat Knives[]

Produced by: Bandit, Dahl.

Combat knives generally have poor damage and short range, but make up for it with very high swing speeds. They are very varied, as they have a large amount of accessories that grant bonuses such as increased movement speed, higher critical damage, and guaranteed crits on backstab.

Machetes[]

Produced by: Bandit, Torgue, Dahl

Machetes are a middle ground between Energy swords and knives, they offer average damage and medium reach at decent swing speed

Bludgeons[]

Produced by: Torgue, Titan

Bludgeons come in many varied forms: maces, clubs, bats, hammers and pickaxes(exclusive to Titan) all fall under this category. Bludgeons have varying ranges(anywhere from short to long) and low swing speed, but have exceptionally high damage.

Hand-to-Hand[]

Produced by: Bandit, Hyperion, Torgue

Hand-to-Hand weapons take the shape of knuckledusters, gloves and gauntlets. They have the shortest reach of all melee weapons, but they pack a considerable punch with a good swing speed.

Drill[]

Produced by: Titan

Drills are a weapon type that are exclusive to Titan, and resemble large, portable drilling rigs. Drills deal heavy continuous damage as long as the trigger is held down. They often come with a movement speed reduction, which coupled with their short range can make dealing with some enemies difficult. They will also never spawn with an active bonus other than dash or charge, and will never spawn with the nimble passive bonus.

Active bonus effects[]

Block[]

  • The user blocks with their melee weapon, reducing all incoming damage from the front by 45% and reduces movement speed by 25% for the duration of the block, which varies from weapon to weapon

Throw[]

  • The user throws their weapon, and an exact copy digistructs itself in their hands a few seconds later. Deals twice or even thrice the base damage of the weapon. Thrown weapons travel in a heavy arc. *Not available on Energy Swords

Projectile[]

  • The user swings their weapon, shooting out an elemental projectile that travels in a straight line. *Only available on Energy Swords

Dash[]

  • The user dashes forwards a short distance and swings their weapon dealing 50% extra damage. Has a fast cooldown

Charge[]

  • The user charges forwards covering a long distance, knocking back and briefly stunning an enemy on hit, the duration of the stun is based on the distance traveled. Has a long cooldown

Roundabout[]

  • The user spins in a circular motion, increasing their range and dealing 75% bonus damage to all enemies around them. Has a medium cooldown

Passive bonus effects[]

Fortifying[]

  • Grants a stacking 8% damage resistance on kill that fades after 10 seconds, can stack up to 3 times.

Vampiric[]

  • The user is healed 2% of the damage they deal.

Nimble[]

  • Grants a passive 25% speed boost to the user

Kneecapper[]

  • Hitting a melee attack on an enemy will reduce their movement speed by 30% for 5 seconds. *Only available on bludgeons

Serrated[]

  • hits will apply the bleeding status effect that lasts 5 seconds. Bleed damage bypasses shields but has no effect on armor, it is not affected by elemental resistances or buffs . *not available on bludgeons

What We Hope To Accomplish[]

We would like a good deal of weapons and no arsenal would be complete without a good deal of melee options. We want you to make as many weapons as possible. Here is what we are looking for

  • No need to create new elements, we have an elements page up here . *Energy swords always spawn with an element
  • Some basic White and Green rarity weapons.
  • Some nice blues and purples, not over powered, but something you would want with you when walking down a dark alley.
  • MAKE 'EM UNIQUE! We need you to make red text weapons! Make them cool and different.
  • What weapon chest would be finished without Legendaries, Seraphs, and Pearlescents. Fill 'er up!
